Trinity College Dublin (TCD) is the number one ranked university in Ireland (THES 2019, QS 2019), and is ranked 104th in the world and a member of the prestigious League of European Research Universities. Founded in 1592, Trinity is at the nexus of tradition and innovation, offering it’s 17,000 strong student buddy programmes across 24 schools and three faculties. The School of Natural Sciences, comprising the Disciplines of Botany, Geography, Geology and Zoology, the Centre for the Environment and the Centre for Biodiversity Research, is one of the largest schools in the Faculty of Engineering, Mathematics and Science and hosts biological, physical and social scientists. The School currently accommodates 40 academic staff, ca. 18 postdoctoral research fellows and ca. 164 post-graduate students. The School of Natural Sciences is one of the first in Ireland to hold an Athena SWAN bronze award for addressing issues in gender inequality.

Role In Project

Jeremy J. Piggott (f, PhD 2013, >25 articles, >1029 citations, h-index 14) is a tenured Assistant Professor in Aquatic Biology in the Discipline of Zoology and Trinity Centre for the Environment. His research seeks to improve the management, conservation and restoration of aquatic ecosystems in the face of global change. He is a Laureate of Irish Research Council and currently serves as Vice-President of the International Society of Limnology (SIL) and Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

Marcin Penk (m, PhD 2014, >13 articles, >203 citations, h-index 6) is a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the Piggott Lab at Trinity College Dublin. He is principally interested in how environmental contexts shape biological communities and influence ecosystem functioning. Key expertise: empirical investigations of the mechanisms and impacts of eutrophication, climate change and biological invasions in aquatic ecosystems and fringing ecotones.
