The University of Vigo which currently has 21000 students is one of Spain ́s main agents in Marine Research, and the leader of the International Excellence Campus of the Sea “Campusdomar” which brings together socio-economic agents and marine researchers from the Galicia-Northern Portugal Euroregion. The Toralla Marine Science Station (ECIMAT) is the University of Vigo ́s marine research station. It functions as a Core Technical Facility providing marine research facilities and services to more than 3000 services per year to 250 researchers both from the University of Vigo and from other public and private institutions. ECIMAT provides access to Ecosystems, Marine Biological Resources and Advanced Laboratories as well as Mesocosms Facilities and Aquaria for Marine Research. ECIMAT ́s management system is based on user service and continuous improvement and the whole system and its services are certified under ISO 9001:2015.
Jose González Fernández (m, PhD 2011 Marine Ecology) is a researcher in UVIGO and head of the Oceanography Unit and Mesocosms facilities at ECIMAT. His research has been focussed on microbial plankton ecology, but since 10 years ago his activity is also related to marine technologies and real time monitoring of physical-biological variables in the water column. On this sense he has been involved on several INTERREG projects (e.g. RAIA (INTERREG 0313_RAIA_1_E), or RADAR_ON_RAIA (just approved)) to monitor environmental changes for the plankton communities.
Damian Costas Costas (m, MSc Marine Science 2001) is ECIMAT ́s technical director, he coordinates all service provision in the station and is specialised in the design of hydraulic systems, tanks design and maintenance, and pumping systems. He is also technical manager of land-based mesocosms facilities at ECIMAT.
Project role AQUACOSM-plus: Contributor on WP3, WP4, WP5, WP6, WP8 and WP9.
