CIBIO-UE is a University of Évora’s branch of CIBIO (Centre for Research on Biodiversity and Genetic Resources), a research platform conducting basic and applied research on the three main components of biodiversity: genes, species and ecosystems. Research at CIBIO-UE is driven by three unifying questions: how did past climate changes affect biodiversity? How might current and future environmental changes affect biodiversity? How can biodiversity be conserved given current and future challenges?
Miguel Araújo (m, PhD 2000, University College London), Visiting Full Professor at the University of Évora, where holds the Biodiversity Chair, he is also Research Professor at the National Museum of Natural Sciences (CSIC); >20 years of experience in biogeography, global change biology, and macroecology with strong focus on modeling the impacts of climate change on species and ecosystems; Serves as Editor-in-Chief of Ecography. Special recognitions include the Pessoa Prize (2018, The Ernst Haeckel Prize (2018), The Rey Jaime I Award, the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award (2014), the International Biogeography Society MacArthur and Wilson Award (2013), and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility Ebbe Nielsen Prize (2013). He published >200 peer publications including Nature/Science (x11), PNAS/Nature Climate Change/PLoS Biology/Ecology Letters (x6); He is a Thomson Reuters highly-cited scientist (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) with >47500 Google Scholar citations; H- index=86. He has supervised and mentored over 60 researchers and students.
